Inauguration
This post establishes Neighborhood News -- Hollywood. It's a flagship blog, intent on demonstrating the value of blogs as a local news resource. Managed by aggregative blog hosts like blogger, blogs represent an unequaled way to distribute local news and information.
Compared to print or broadcast news, or even full-fledged websites, blogs have the advantage of zero media cost. There's no paper, no broadcast licenses, or hosting fees. The resource cost is built into the blog-providers advertising and load balancing model. The responsibility for delivery is off of the news-provider, and any revenue from additional advertisers can go straight to editors, journalists and other contributors.
Neighborhood News -- Hollywood needs the following:
- Journalists/Photojournalists.
- Reviewers.
- Editors.
- Site/Template Designers.
- Readers.
- Imitators (in other areas).
Articles, reviews and pretty much everything else should be local in scope. The New York Times, CNN, and all those big boys can cover international events much better than an operation like this ever will. But local folks need local coverage. They need to know what's going on with the schools and the clubs and the local politicians. No big press network can afford to be that targetted.
If you'd like to get involved, make a submission, or just share your thoughts, contact andrew.palumbo@gmail.com. Since we're just starting, all reasonable articles ought to get published.
